I called in looking for instructions on migration registration card mandatory for foreigners to have while traveling to Kazakhstan. The consular said it is beyond his scope pf responsibilities to advise on this subject... Not kind of advise one expects from the official representative of the country, but that type of advise (or the lack of thereof) was in line with my expectations from Kazakhstan official anyway, so I was not surprised. Did a research myself. Overall - if you are a Canadian citizen - you don't need a visa for up to 30 days, and if you left KZ legally - you won't have issues on the border. Registration card (see attached) is being filled out on board of an airplane or @ airport of arrival, being verified and stamped by the officials upon arrival. Keep it to return it at the border when leaving the country and that's it. You DON'T NEED to do anything else, NO NEED to visit police department at the place of residence. Oh, and if you travelling via Moscow SVO (Sheremetyevo) - no need for a Russian transit VISA, as long as you stay less then 24 hours AND not leaving the terminals D,E and F (one building) (you will pass through 30 sec passport control though)
